My experience in CoHive

Working in the start-up scene challenged me to be able to work in a fast-paced environment. I interacted and worked with many partners which encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and hone my communications skills. I learnt to think out of the box when coming up with new ideas for the company and better my leadership and teamwork skills when I was a project manager.

Being a retail assistant is not easy and it taught me that teamwork and communication are very crucial especially during hectic periods of sales/seasons. I had to give the best service to customers which taught me to have patience and understanding. Meeting different types of people taught me to open-minded and be flexible when working with different personalities. When it comes to unexpected circumstances, I have to accommodate quickly to solve solutions, making it successful in satisfying customers.

I volunteered to give my assistance to professional public speaker, Mr Nick's, public speaking workshop for student-athletes with intellectual disabilities who took part in Special Olympics Singapore. My interaction with them was very eye-opening as they taught me a new perspective on people with disabilities.

Make-up artist assistant (July 2018)

Due to my skills and passion for make-up, I attended a make-up workshop by Singapore Fashion Runway to prepare to do make-up for the models with disabilities. It was a great experience interacting with the models as they opened my heart and eyes on their community. They taught me that despite the setbacks, I have to always focus on my strengths

Booth manager for "Balik Kampung" event (July 2017)

I volunteered to help my seniors' Year 2 project as a game booth master. My role was quite challenging as I had to manage the energetic children and had to come up with a twist to the game to accommodate the children's wants. It taught me to have quick problem-solving skills.

Bo Tien Day Activity Centre for the Elderly

In Secondary School, my classmates and I had to plan and execute activities for the elderly as part of our volunteer curriculum. It turned out to be successful as we sang to them and played games together.

Overall volunteering experience

Throughout my time volunteering and working with various communities has given me a fruitful learning experience as it opened my perspectives and given me more opportunities when it comes to giving back. I have learnt to empathise and learn from these communities. It has taught me to focus on their strengths so as to empower the people society has left behind.

Co-Curricular Activities

Climbing has taught me resilience as it is not only physically challenging but mentally too.

Being a student councillor taught me leadership skills like managing people, organizing camps and leading groups. I was given the opportunity to go to Melbourne, Australia for a leadership overseas trip in 2014. I was taught to be open-minded, be patient, humble and listen to what others have to say despite being a group leader. I received the Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES) in 2015.
